Meet The Team

Myla Leung (Founder/President)
Hi! My name is Myla, and I’m a senior from Maryland. I started Climate Health Education Initiative after realizing there was a lack of accessibility to interactive and engaging environmental education in the K-12 curriculum. I was overwhelmed by the news of severe wildfires or extreme deforestation worldwide, yet I felt I lacked sufficient knowledge to truly grasp the extent of these environmental crises and take subsequent action. I had a surface-level knowledge of climate change and global warming. However, I wanted to dive deeper and was driven by a strong desire to learn more about how the environment intersects with health, justice, and equity. I also wanted to incorporate hands-on activities such as hydroponics, gardening, and recycled crafts to focus on active learning. I strongly believe youth have the potential to become environmental advocates, and I hope CHEI will raise environmental stewards who will pave the way for a more sustainable future!

Michelle Zhao (Vice President)
Hello! My name is Michelle, and I am a senior from Maryland. I am committed to empowering youth to take action for more sustainable future generations. I believe bringing together voices from many different backgrounds helps us to learn from each other’s unique perspectives and spark innovative solutions to global environmental challenges. Creating spaces where people can connect, share ideas, and take action together is essential. Whether it’s organizing guest speaker panels with environmental leaders or leading hands-on projects in our communities, I’ve seen how powerful it is when diverse voices come together under a shared purpose. These collaborations help us approach problems in a more inclusive, innovative, and effective way. I believe tackling environmental issues requires teamwork and a commitment to listening to and learning from one another. I am dedicated to building sustainability locally and globally, and it begins with spreading awareness and educating youth. I believe together, we can build a more sustainable future.

Sophia Ge (Vice President)
Hello, my name is Sophia and I’m a senior from Maryland! I’m passionate in a lot of areas—advocacy, public policy, entrepreneurship, applied economics—but it is really important to me that tie my interests to environmental sustainability and social justice. I helped build the Climate Health Education Initiative because I’m committed to empowering communities through education and action, especially from the perspective of our environment. My focus is to connect human stories and digestible topics to broader environmental issues. My favorite thing about climate advocacy is its interdisciplinary approach. It blends environmental policy, sustainable business practices, climate struggles across the world—stories that inspire action. Beyond Climate Health Education Initiative, I’m also involved in climate protests, speaker panels, and campaigns aimed at holding industries and policymakers accountable. I strongly believe that real progress starts with personal connections and shared narratives, providing equal education and empowering individuals to speak up.

Hyunbee Cho
My name is Hyunbee Cho. I attend Poolesville High-School as a sophomore who is part of the Global Ecology magnet program. I enjoy writing anything and everything from short poems to 300 pages on google document with friends. I want to join the Climate Health Education Initiative because I believe the environment to be a gift given from one generation to another. In my ephemeral time on earth, I want to spread my message that we must protect our gift, the world, ensuring a sustainable environment for not only us but generations to come. In order to accomplish this, educating people to become aware of our climate crisis and the impacts it has on us is pinnacle. The Climate Health Education Initiative is vital in helping this cause, and that is why I am inclined to join it.

Akshay Langhani
My name is Akshay Langhani, a 12th grader from Sindh, Pakistan. During my high school, I got to know about the lack of awareness of the world's most important issue, climate change. Since I belong to a country that got deadly floods last year, the aftereffects that we saw after the devastating floods were truly heartbreaking. Since then, I wanted people to get to know about this issue and its possible consequences, and CHEI was the perfect platform for me to make them aware of this ongoing issue. A fun fact about me is that I really like to interact with people of different cultural backgrounds.

Stephanie Li

Hello! I'm Gia Han, and I am a sophomore from Jacksonville, Florida. I have a great concern about climate change and its consequences, which has motivated me to join Climate Health Education Initiative. A fact about me is that besides climate health, I also care greatly about youth career development and education.

Debre Kok
Hey there, I'm Debre! Born and raised in Malaysia, I'm a high school junior with a passion for volunteering, educating and ultimately, initiating change. Joining the Climate Health Education Initiative (CHEI) was an absolute no-brainer. It stems from my deep-rooted belief that our planet is home, and if we don't step up for it, who will? I hope to inspire the youth in a diverse space where we can all thrive to build a better world because Earth needs a superhero team! When not immersed in championing social causes or delving into research rabbit holes, you'll find me jamming to Frank Ocean tunes, binge-watching Gilmore Girls, and hanging out with my eternal partner in crime—coffee.

Zoe Lee
Hello! My name is Zoe, and I am from Clarksburg, Maryland. I wanted to join the CHEI because up until recently, climate change and environmental health weren't topics that I thought to be so close to us, or something that I could even change. But once I realized that there were organizations like the CHEI that were striving to encourage students to take action, I wanted to help spread the word and encouragement. I love building Legos and listening to music!

Ayomi Mukerjee
Hi! My full name is Ayomi Mukerjee. I am from Maryland. One reason I really wanted to join a chapter is due to the problems going on that resulted from climate change. Doing something small like starting a chapter in my school could have a big impact, so I am glad to do my part! One fun fact about me is I am in the process of making a garden with my grandpa.

Vienna Natallis
My name is Vienna and I'm currently a sophomore from Jakarta, Indonesia. Eyob Sisay

Tewobsta Gebretsadik
Hello! My name is Tewobsta Gebretsadik. I am a sophomore living in Maryland. I enjoy crocheting and spending time at the park to relax my mind. I wanted to join CHEI because I feel that many teenagers are not adequately informed about the seriousness of climate change. While we all acknowledge its existence and impact, I believe there is always more to learn and explore about the subject.
